Course Description

This course is an introduction corrosion and corrosion control. This course will provide information regarding electrochemical fundamentals pertaining to corrosion and the fundamentals of galvanic corrosion, uniform corrosion, hydrogen damage, and stress corrosion. Information is also provided on how to protect common construction materials such as steel and concrete from the effects of corrosion.

Specific Learning Objectives

• Learn the electrochemical fundamentals pertaining to corrosion, including electrochemical cells.
• Learn the fundamentals of galvanic corrosion, uniform corrosion, hydrogen damage, and stress corrosion.
• Learn how to limit corrosion damage in concrete.
• Learn the how control corrosion using inhibitors, coatings, and cathodic protection.
